Zagreb Museum of Contemporary Art
The Zagreb Museum of Contemporary Art features three floors connected by a spiral ramp, leading you through an inspiring mix of permanent (super excellent) and temporary exhibitions. The minimalist, industrial building appears to float above a mural wall covered in works by well-known street artists, which adds a bold urban touch to the exterior.
On the third floor, find Carsten Höller's Double Slide (2009), an immersive, permanent art installation that offers a playful way to reach the ground floor. It’s an experience where you literally exit through art.
Outside, near the intersection, look for I See You by OKO, a piece marked by the artist’s signature eyes and animal figures. Discovering her work throughout the city felt like a whimsical treasure hunt. And before you leave, don’t miss the mural wall near the gift shop on the opposite side of the building.

The Museum of Broken Relationships
The Museum of Broken Relationships is one of Zagreb’s most beloved museums. It’s quirky, deeply personal, and full of heart. People from around the world donate objects along with short stories that range from heartbreaking to hilarious. The experience is intimate and reflective, inviting you to slow down and connect with the universal emotions of love, loss, and healing. If you enjoy offbeat museums that stir the soul, this is the museum for you.

🕒 Open daily: 9am-10pm
🎟️ Admission: 7 Euros
🔥 Hot tip: Spend a few minutes in the gift shop, and if you spot the scratchy postcards, grab a few and write to your friends. They’ll be thoroughly amused to receive one in the mail.
The Museum of Unfinished Art
The Museum of Unfinished Art is a one-of-a-kind creative space where you become the artist. This interactive Zagreb museum invites you to find beauty in the unfinished and create simply for the joy of it. Paint, stamp, weave, sew, trace, and play! I left with three small pieces of my own art and contributed to collaborative works. Perfect for all ages, this family-friendly museum in Zagreb is a joyful reminder that creative play is therapeutic and healing. It’s okay not to finish, as long as you enjoy the process.

Zagreb 80s Museum
Travel back in time at the Zagreb 80s Museum, a retro apartment filled with pure nostalgia. Designed to recreate everyday life in former Yugoslavia, this time capsule is styled with vinyl records, groovy orange furniture, forgotten prints and patterns, and even a few cheeky surprises hidden behind cabinet doors. It’s fun, you can touch everything, and it only takes about 30 minutes to explore. Excellent for pop culture lovers, design enthusiasts, or anyone who grew up in the 1980s.

The Typhlological Museum
The Typhlological Museum in Zagreb is one of the city’s most unique and meaningful museums. It offers a thoughtful glimpse into the world of the visually impaired through interactive exhibits and inclusive design. You can learn to read and type in Braille, admire tactile sculptures created by blind artists, and explore how education evolved to be more accessible and empowering.
The highlight is a pitch-black room that invites you to navigate using your other senses. Feeling everyday objects in complete darkness gives you a deeper appreciation for how much we rely on sight and how remarkable it is to adapt without it. This small but powerful museum leaves a lasting impression and is highly recommended for anyone seeking a unique experience in Zagreb.
🖤 The Typhlological Museum
🕒 Open Monday-Friday: 9am-4pm (Closed on Saturday and Sunday)
🎟️ Admission 4 Euros
The Mushroom Museum
The Mushroom Museum in Zagreb is a truly unique find among the city’s museums. It’s home to the world’s largest collection of freeze-dried mushrooms, featuring over 1,600 specimens, including many rare and protected species. The collection was made possible by the late Prof. Dr. Sc. Romano Božac, who developed a unique preservation method that allows us to appreciate the extraordinary diversity of fungi up close.
Each mushroom is carefully displayed and labeled with fascinating facts. Did you know there are an estimated 2.5 million fungal species on Earth, but only 10% have been scientifically described? I find fungi absolutely captivating, and this earthy, offbeat museum was a highlight of my Zagreb itinerary. A must-see for anyone who thinks mushrooms are magic and lovers of the unexpected.
🖤 The Mushroom Museum
🕒 Open Wednesday 1pm-7pm, Friday and Saturday 10am-5pm.
🎟️ Admission 4 Euros
❗ Please note: at the time of writing, this museum is temporarily closed. I reached out, and they mentioned it should reopen within a month. I’ll update this section as soon as I receive confirmation.
